Notes on Nirvana

If cultivating a greater sense of self-awareness is of interest to you, I highly recommend an insightful little coffee table book from Scott Shaw.
It’s called Nirvana in a Nutshell, which contains what Shaw calls “157 Zen Meditations.”
To me, they’re really contemplations but nonetheless they offer valuable clues about realizing the highest state in the universe - Nirvana.
Here are five of Shaw’s meditations for your consideration:
1. Nirvana is being here, without the thought of going there.
2. Do to become. Undo to un-become. The first step must be taken before the second step may be understood.
3. When life is gone, Nirvana is gone because Nirvana is a living experience. (Do dead people contemplate Nirvana?)
4. If you think you know, you never know.
5. Can you think your way to Nirvana?
Okay that’s it. Please don’t take the above examples as an attempt on my part to persuade you to embrace Buddhism, Hinduism, or any other “ism.”
I just find Shaw’s book a fun little read that opens your mind if you’ll let it.
If you read it (or books like it) with openness and without judgment, wonderful surprises can be in store.
Who knows… maybe even Nirvana.
Thanks for reading.
Yours for spiritual simplicity,
